They are marketed as an all-purpose potato for the consumer market.

Cherry Red Potatoes were developed in 1999 by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at its Agricultural Experimental Stations in Colorado, North Dakota and Texas, from a cross between potatoes referred to as “ND4750-2R” and “LA1858.”
