They have yellow skin covered with pale red flushes.
Inside, they have white, tender, crisp, juicy, aromatic flesh, with a good sweet flavour.
The apples ripen in August.

History Notes
Doctor Matthews Apples originated in Tennessee, possibly developed by a Dr. W.F. Matthews of Brazil, Tennessee.
The apple was popular in Indiana. It was grown at the Indiana State Agricultural Station starting in 1889.
