It ripens very early, which should be a big plus in farmers eyes, but they actually appear to find it a troublesome fruit as it has the annoying of just dropping off the trees. Which is unfortunate, because it also has extremely tender skin that bruises easily, which makes it hard to ship, and while it still is hanging onto the tree, it tends to get fruit fire blight very easily.
Nevertheless, because the sweet yet tart taste is excellent, it is still grown by some; this just means though that you are more likely to see it in local farmers markets and at road-side stands than you are at stores.
