They are grown for use as dried beans.
The plant produces pods 3 ½ inches (9 cm) long. There will be 5 to 7 beans per pod.
Swedish Brown Beans are ½ inch (1 cm) long by ¼ inch (½ cm) wide.
They are oblong with squat ends, and a butterscotch brown colour with a white eye on the side.
When cooked, Swedish Brown Beans have a golden brown colour, and a flavour that is almost slightly sweet.
They are popular in Sweden.
Possibly the same bean as Brown Dutch Beans.
Cooking Tips
Simmer soaked Swedish Brown Beans for 2 hours; pressure-cook soaked beans for 20 to 25 minutes.
Swedish Brown Beans are good for baked beans and soups.
