If you're up an hour before everyone else on the weekend, it will seem to them like you've fussed since the crack of dawn to make this, but it's dead easy. It's also a great brunch dish. Cooking at: 325 F / 170 C / Gas Mark 3
Arrange bread cubes in a 13 x 9 (3.5 litre) casserole dish (no need to grease the dish.)
Slice the tomato thinly, and arrange on top of the bread.
Mix all the remaining ingredients; pour over bread & tomato, covering it all. Bake uncovered until a knife comes out clean, about 1 hour.
Notes
If you are feeding fussy kids who won't eat tomato, it can easily be omitted. If you have cooked sausage or bacon, and want to make a one dish meal, you can chop that and arrange on top of bread, too, before pouring egg mixture on. You can get inventive: if you've a taste for fish, like anchovies or kippers, that would be nice in this, too.
