Soissons Blanc Beans grow on a runner bean type plant that grows up to 8 feet (2.5 metres) tall.
The bean pods can be harvested when very young for use as a green bean.
When the pods are allowed to fully mature, the beans inside are large, white, oval beans, slightly curved and slightly flattened.
Occasionally Soissons Blanc Beans will have a few wrinkles on them.
History Notes
Soissons is in Picardy. A conference was held in Soissons in 1728 to settle the fate of Gibraltar. A Spanish diplomat is reputed to have given a bag of beans to the gardener of the Saint-Leger abbey located there. The gardener grew them, and today’s Soissons Blanc Beans come from there.
