Anise Basil is an annual plant, with purple stems, and green leaves with a purple hue to them.
It grows up to 18 inches (45 cm) tall, but doesn’t grow quite as quickly as other basil plants do, taking about 72 days from seed.
Anise Basil blossoms with purple flowers and has both the aroma and flavour of anise.
Anise Basil can be used fresh, or it can be dried.
It is popular in South-Asian cooking, particularly Vietnamese.
Anise Basil is particularly good with fish.
History Notes
Anise Basil is possibly native to Persia.
