Noir des Carmes Melons are French cantaloupe melons.

The smooth, ribbed skin ripens from almost black to very dark green to orange mottled with medium green.

They will be 4 to 6 inches wide (10 to 15 cm), and weigh 2 to 3 pounds (900 to 1400g.)

The orange flesh inside is sweet and aromatic.

History Notes

Noir des Carmes Melons were known by 1787.

Language Notes

The name means “Black of the Carmelite monks.”
