Red Chief Lentils are actuallly more orange than red. They are sold with their skin removed. The colour you are seeing is their inside colour.

They are about the same size as green (aka brown) lentils, about 1/4 to 1/3 inches (1/2 to 3/4 cm) wide, and are almost flat.

They don’t need soaking, and hold their shape when cooked.

They have a mild, earthy flavour.

The plant needs 110 days from seed to produce lentils.

History Notes

Developed in America.
