Rosciola di Rotello Olives are small olives that are harvested for oil when they are a greenish golden-yellow, just before they start darkening to brown. If left longer, the olives would ripen to a purplish-black.

The olives, with a 20% oil yield, are mid-range in terms of their oil content, but the tree is a reliable producer and quite resistant to many of the ills that can afflict other olive trees. The tree can sometimes pollinate itself, but not reliably.

The trees are grown in Latium, Molise and in the Marche.

Language Notes

Rotello, from the name, is in Molise.
