Inside, they have firm, tender, juicy, greenish flesh with a sweet, sharp, rich flavour.
The fruit ripens late November / December in England, and has its best flavour when harvested as late as possible.
The apples may crack on the tree.

Sam Young Apples originated in Ireland.
The apple was sent in 1818 to the London Horticultural Society by a John Robertson of Kilkenny.
It was being sold in North Carolina, USA, by 1856.
