Opera Creams are a “fondant” candy.
They are chocolate coated, rich, sweet and creamy.
The insides can be flavoured in different ways.
They are traditionally made and sold in winter months, and are particularly popular in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Opera Creams are not the same as Opera Fudge.
Language Notes
No one is particularly sure why the word “Opera” got associated with the candy. One of the few guesses is that there was once a candy called “Between the Acts” that was a chocolate coated candy with a creamy vanilla filling inside.
Opera Creams are sometimes confusingly referred to as “Opera Fudge.”
