Baking Chocolate usually comes as squares of unsweetened chocolate — chocolate to which no sweeteners or flavourings have been added.

It may also come semi-sweetened.

It is intended for use as an ingredient in dishes being prepared, rather than for consumption on its own.

Substitutes

1 chocolate square = 1 oz (30g) of baking chocolate (verify with package) = 2 tablespoons cocoa plus 1 tablespoon oil or butter

Equivalents

5 oz (140g) chocolate, melted = ½ cup melted chocolate
