Butte Potatoes

Butte Potatoes are long potatoes with smooth tan-coloured skin with some russeting, and white flesh.

These are floury potatoes with good flavour.

They are aimed at direct to consumer sales, though they are also good for French Fries (aka chips in the UK.)

Butte Potatoes have higher protein than many other potatoes.

History Notes

Butte Potatoes were developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Aberdeen, Idaho in cooperation with Idaho, Washington State and Oregon State Universities from a cross between Norgold Russet potatoes and a potato referred to as “A492-2.”

During development, it was referred to as “A6371-2.”

Developed 1963; released 1977.
