Connecticut Field Pumpkins

Connecticut Field Pumpkins

Connecticut Field Pumpkins. HalfGig / wikimedia / 2013 / CC BY-SA 3.0

Connecticut Field Pumpkins are slightly oval, with orange-coloured, soft rind with slight ribbing.

They grow to be 36 cm (14 inches) wide by 30 cm (12 inches) tall, and will weigh 7 to 11 kg (15 to 25 pounds).

They are mostly used as an ornamental for Halloween decoration, and as animal feed.

110 days from seed.

Cooking Tips

Connecticut Field Pumpkins have a light yellow, coarse, flesh that has reasonable flavour for pies and canning, but it is a bit watery for pies, and has a very plain, mild taste. The texture can also be stringy.

There are better pie pumpkins out there.

History Notes

Connecticut Field Pumpkins were known from the early 1800s.
