Creamed Coconut is a solid white block of coconut meat. It looks like a block of white shortening or lard. It is usually sold on store shelves, not in the chillers.
It’s made from just coconut. It’s not sweetened; the sweetness you taste will be the natural sweetness.
This is sometimes confusingly called “Coconut Cream”, which is actually quite different.
Cooking Tips
Chop into chunks before using, then you can stir directly into sauces, or, you can rehydrate with hot water. You can also grate it.
Substitutes
Same amount of desiccated coconut.
