Melton Hunt Cake is a moist fruit cake made in the town of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England, where Stilton cheese and Melton Mowbray pies are also made.
It contains dried fruit, almonds, butter, eggs, and rum, and is decorated on top with whole almonds and glazed fruit.
Melton Hunt Cake has been made by Dickinson & Morris since 1854.
It was originally made for members of the Melton Hunt club group.
John Dickinson had started making Melton Mowbray Pork Pies in 1848.
The Morris in the name comes from Joseph Morris, who started working with the Dickinson firm in 1886 and became a partner in 1901.
The company has been owned since 1992 by Samworth Brothers.
