They have yellow skin almost entirely covered by red.
Inside, the cream-coloured flesh is crisp, firm and juicy, with good flavour and a balance of tart with some sweet.
The apples ripen mid to late September.
This apple is protected by US Plant patent #5723; royalty prices have to be paid on the trees when purchasing.

History Notes
Freedom Apples were developed from a cross between Macoun and Antonovka apples, and an apple named “NY49821-46”, done at the New York Agricultural Experiment Station in 1983.
