Golden Pippin Apples

Two apples share the name of Golden Pippin Apples: an American one and a British one.

American Golden Pippin

The American Golden Pippin is large-sized, and round, with greenish-gold skin that ripens to full gold.

Inside, it has yellowish, juicy, tender flesh, with a pronounced fruity flavour.

It is ready for harvest in September.

It is good for fresh-eating or baking.

American Golden Pippins were known in America by 1800 in Westchester County, New York.

British Golden Pippin

The British Golden Pippin is a small to medium-sized apple with yellow skin with russet and white dots on it.

Inside, it has yellowish, crisp, firm flesh with a pronounced sweet, fruity flavour.

It is ready for harvest in September.

It is good for fresh-eating or cider.

British Golden Pippin Apples were known in Sussex, England by 1629.

They were mentioned in the late 1700s by a Thomas Knight.
