Japanese Garlic is a named variety of North American garlic. It’s not actually Japanese.
It has very large bulbs, sometimes approaching the size of smaller Elephant Garlics.
There are 5 to 7 large cloves per bulb. The skin on the cloves is yellow to tan coloured.
Language Notes
Japanese Garlic is called Japanese because the garlic is believed to have originated in western Washington State from a Japanese farmer there.
