McIntrye Potatoes are oblong.

They have buff or off-white skin with some purple blushes in it, and purple around the eyes. Occasionally, there is some russetting on the skin.

The potato was marketed as a dual purpose potato for both baking and boiling.

History Notes

McIntrye Potatoes were developed before 1915.

In 1916, the potato constituted 70% of all the potatoes grown on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

It was popular before all-white potato varieties were introduced.

‘Over the mantelpiece was … a large framed photograph of Francatelli, that immortal chef whose memory is kept green in so many kitchens, and whose recipes are still followed as are followed the footprints of the great ones in the Everlasting Sands of Time.’ — Robert Smythe Hichens (English author. 14 November 1864 – 20 July 1950)
