The bulbs of Persian Star Purple Stripe Garlic have thick skin, on which purple-stripes start appearing as you peel the layers away.
When peeled to expose the cloves, the tips of the cloves look like a “persian star”, thus the name.
There will be 8 to 12 large cloves inside, with red tips and reddish skin with red stripes.
The cloves have somewhat crumbly flesh, with a full but mild flavour.
The plant prefers colder winters.
It belongs to the Purple Stripe sub-group of hardneck garlic.
History Notes
Persian Star Purple Stripe Garlic possibly originated in the Uzbekistan Republic, arriving in America sometime in the 1980s.
