Planter’s Jumbo Melons

Planter’s Jumbo Melon are a type of muskmelon.

They are uniformly-sized, about 7 1/2 inches (19 cm) long by 6 inches (15 cm) wide, weighing 4 to 5 pounds (1.8 to 2.3 kg.)

The netted beige skin has slight ribbing on it.

Inside, the melon has a small seed cavity and orange flesh.

85 to 90 days from seed.

History Notes

Planter’s Jumbo Melons were released in 1954 jointly by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Vegetable Breeding Laboratory at Charleston, South Carolina, Clemson University and the South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. Development was led by a Dr Morris Hughes.
