Rumbo Squash

Rumbo Squash is flattened, with heavy ribbing, and a dull caramel-orange coloured rind that looks a bit waxed.

Most people would look at this squash and tend to call it a pumpkin instead of a squash, and in fact, it can be used as an ornamental.

It grows to be 5 to 7 inches (12 ½ to 18 cm) tall by 12 inches (30 cm) wide, and is very heavy for its size, weighing 14 to 15 pounds (6 to 6 ½ kg.)

Inside, it has dense, golden, sweet, nutty, finely-textured flesh.

The plant is a hybrid, vine-type one. The vine can grow 4 inches (10 cm) a day.

95 to 100 days from seed.

Cooking Tips

The flesh cooks up very smooth.

Storage Hints

Stores well. The waxy veneer helps to improve its storage life.

History Notes

Rumbo Squash was developed in South Korea.
