Russian Redstreak Garlic

Russian Redstreak Garlic has medium-sized bulbs with pale purple stripes on them.

Depending where the garlic is grown, its taste can be mild, or it can be sharp at first, with the flavour building after that. The flavour is particularly good when raw.

Early harvest. If left in ground too long, it will split open.

The garlic belongs to the Asiatic sub-group of the Artichoke group of garlics, itself a subgroup of softneck garlics.

Storage Hints

Stores 6 to 7 months.

History Notes

Russian Redstreak Garlic is a mutation of Russian Red that occured around 1988.

‘Grilling, broiling, barbecuing — whatever you want to call it — is an art, not just a matter of building a pyre and throwing on a piece of meat as a sacrifice to the gods of the stomach.’ — James Beard (5 May 1903 – 21 January 1985)
