Salt Bannock was a bannock made from whatever meal was available with the addition of a whole lot of salt.
You were supposed to eat Salt Bannock, then go to bed without saying another word before drinking or going to sleep. You would then have dreams about what would come in the future.
Young single women were advised to go to bed backwards as well. They were told that what they would see in their dreams was the man who would be her husband bringing her a drink.
On the Isle of Man, girls would eat a salt herring instead of a Salt Bannock.
Salt Bannock could be made any time of year.
