Smoky Mt. Limbertwig are medium to large-sized apples.

They have yellow skin flushed with dark red, and inside, aromatic, yellowish, crisp, juicy flesh with good flavour.

The fruit ripens September to October, depending on location.

The tree has drooping branches typical of Limbertwig apple trees. It was grown at higher altitudes in the American South.
