Burgess Vine Buttercup Squash have a dark green, thin rind with lighter green slight ridges on it. At its bottom is a lighter coloured “button” or “cup” bluish-green area where the blossom was. They grow to be 8 inches (20 cm) to 9 inches (22 1/2 cm) wide, and weigh about 3 to 5 pounds…
Bush Buttercup Squash weigh 3 to 4 pounds (1 1/3 to 1 3/4 pounds.) They have sweet, orange flesh, which is not watery. There will be 1 to 2 squashes per bush type plant, which spread out only 3 to 4 feet (a metre or just over.)
Buttercup squash have a thin but hard rind. Inside, they have finely-textured, orange flesh that is dense, not watery, with thick flesh walls, with a taste described by some as close to that of sweet potato.
Kabocha squash will weigh 1 to 1 1/2 kg (2 to 3 pounds), with finely-textured, dense, firm, pale orange flesh that is not watery. It has good flavour and a taste that gets even sweeter after a few weeks of storage.
