13th of February is Tortini Day.

It celebrates the Italian food items called tortini.

A tortino (plural “tortini”)  is a “small cake” (from the word “torta”, meaning “cake”). That covers a lot of territory: anything from a cupcake to a small, savoury quiche-like pie.

Most American food writers are familiar with one of two types of tortini: a small, individual-size chocolate cake with a soft centre that oozes out when cut into, and a small, round savoury frittata made from egg.

So, you can pretty much treat yourself to whatever you like that fits in that range today — after all, whoever proclaimed the day didn’t specify which tortini.

‘I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we’re talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime ‘associates,’ food, for me, has always been an adventure.’ — Anthony Bourdain (American food writer. 15 June 1956 – 8 June 2018)
