13th of February is Tortini Day.
It celebrates the Italian food items called tortini.
A tortino (plural “tortini”) is a “small cake” (from the word “torta”, meaning “cake”). That covers a lot of territory: anything from a cupcake to a small, savoury quiche-like pie.
Most American food writers are familiar with one of two types of tortini: a small, individual-size chocolate cake with a soft centre that oozes out when cut into, and a small, round savoury frittata made from egg.
So, you can pretty much treat yourself to whatever you like that fits in that range today — after all, whoever proclaimed the day didn’t specify which tortini.
