Button Mushrooms

Button Mushrooms are the smallest and youngest white mushrooms. They are very firm and white, and very mild tasting. They will be 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) wide at the top, and round.

In cooking, they are good for dishes that involve white sauces, as they won’t discolour the sauce.

They are often put out along with celery sticks, carrot sticks, bell pepper slices, etc, along with a dip to make a crudité platter.

If allowed to grow further, the mushroom will become a Closed Cup Mushroom.
