Caesar Day, celebrating the Caesar cocktail, falls on a Thursday in mid-May.
In Canada, the day kicks off the summer’s first long weekend, which is the Victoria Day weekend.
A Caesar (full name “Bloody Caesar”) is a spicy cocktail based on vodka and Clamato® juice.
You can also use a craft Caesar mix such as Walter’s® instead of the Clamato.
Some people say Caesars are now all about the garnishes. A lime wedge or celery stick were traditional but now, you can make a meal out of the drink. A Caesar can come fully loaded with pickled green beans, bacon, lobster wedges, onion rings, a slider burger, grilled cheese sandwich chunks, brownies, deep fried pickle, barbequed chicken, pepperoni sticks….
Some places offer build-your-own Caesar bars, so you can choose your own garnishes to stack high on your drink.
If you are pressed for time to celebrate today, you can buy Caesars premixed in cans now.

“Aykroyd is unveiling the recipe for National Caesar Day, an annual celebration that falls on the Thursday before the May long weekend – widely acknowledged as the unofficial kick-off to summer and patio season. Now in its fifth year, the 2019 celebrations will be particularly special as Canadians mark the milestone 50th anniversary.” [2]Taylor, Amanda.
