The 13th of August is Filet Mignon Day; a day to gnosh into one of the most swank cuts of beef around.
Filet mignon is expensive in restaurants because you pay for the cachet of the name, but a bit more reasonable when picked up at the store to be tossed onto the backyard grill.
Still, some steak lovers wouldn’t have it even for half the price — they say it’s chronically dry, and would happily swap it for a rib steak any day.
If you are cooking it, remember to keep a close eye on it, as that expensive piece of meat can turn to shoe leather in an instant of overcooking. And, never poke it with a fork while cooking.
