The 11th of June is German Chocolate Cake Day.
Today is the day to celebrate this delicious cake that remains wildly popular even after all these years in Texas, and may even have originated there.
It is chocolate cake with a topping of coconut and pecan, and what’s more traditionally Texan than pecans?
The “German” part of its name came about because recipes originally called for a brand of chocolate called “German chocolate” to be used. But even though real Germans wouldn’t recognize this cake, we are pretty sure they’d love it!
