Haut-Volant Ducks are very small ducks, largely kept as ornamentals.
Their original purpose was to be used in duck hunting, to call other ducks in.
The males are greyish with dark blue heads; the females are mottled brown.
Males weigh about 3.3 pounds (1.5 kg); females around 2.75 pounds (1.25 kg.)
The females lay greenish-shelled eggs weighing around 50g.
The ducks are good fliers.
They are raised in Scandinavia, Netherlands, Germany, etc.
They are not overly popular in France, as they are considered too small for eating.
History Notes
