The 9th of April is the birthday of English food writer, Nigel Slater.
Born in 1956, he became a food writer in 1988 in his early 30s, starting with Marie Claire magazine, and later moving to the “The Observer Magazine”, a Sunday magazine owned by The Guardian.
He has written several books, including his autobiography “Toast: The Story of a Boy’s Hunger”, which was made into a film in 2010.
He is less well-known in North America.
