Pungo are oval, buff-skinned potatoes with some skin flaking, and white flesh inside.
They are promoted as all-purpose for direct to consumer sales, but if anything they are slightly on the floury side.
History Notes
Pungo Potatoes were developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1940 at its Experimental Stations in Norfolk, Virginia and Beltsville, Maryland from a cross between two potatoes referred to as “X96-44” and “X528-170.”
