Xian Garlic has large, somewhat flat bulbs with red and brown striped skin.
Inside, there will be 8 to 12 large cloves with purple skin.
The full-flavoured garlic is zesty, but not overly hot.
Matures early.
Xian Garlic belongs to the Turban sub-group of the Artichoke group of garlics, itself a subgroup of softneck garlics.
History Notes
Xian Garlic was first obtained and identified by a Chester Aaron in Chinatown in San Francisco, possibly smuggled in from China. Possibly originated in north east China.
