The 17th of September is Monte Cristo Day (aka Monte Cristo Sandwich Day).
A Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich with the extra step of being dipped in egg batter before frying.
You get to have one for breakfast, lunch and dinner today.
Do you like yours served with a touch of sweet, by being sprinkled with icing sugar, and served with a small pot of jam, or a drizzle of maple syrup?
What about the bread: do you like yours with sourdough bread?
It might be a bit of a challenge for find a vegan version of a Monte Cristo. In fact, because the sandwiches have fallen out of fashion, it might be a challenge to find any version, as not many restaurants make them anymore. So if you’d like to go out for one on Monte Cristo Day, it’s probably best to start searching a few days in advance for someplace that still serves them. The Bennigan’s restaurant chain still does.

The restaurant called Bennigan’s paid the webmaster at the website called “National Day Calendar” in June 2015 to promote the day as a “national” day.
