Nigiri Sushi is the most well-known kind of sushi.
It is an oblong block of rice, topped with something such as a raw fish slice, seafood or a piece of scrambled egg.
The rice is formed into shape using the palm of your hand, and then pressed again with the garnish on top to make the garnish stick.
Nigiri Sushi originated in Tokyo in the early 1800s.
Aka Tokyo Style sushi, Edo style, Edomae-sushi.
Edo was the old name for Tokyo.
The “Nigiri” part of the name means to squeeze with your hand.
