Planet Carrots

Planet Carrots are called round, but aren’t really. They are short, with very broad tops, tapering sharply after that to almost nothing.

They mature early.

One variety of Planet Carrots is called “Thumbelina.”

Cooking Tips

Planet Carrots don’t need peeling; just scrub them, and top and tail. They are good for steaming, stir-frying, poaching and eating raw.

History Notes

Planet Carrots were developed as a variety that could grow in dense soil, in that they wouldn’t need to struggle growing down into the heavy soil.

Random Quote

‘Nothing rekindles my spirits, gives comfort to my heart and mind, more than a visit to Mississippi… and to be regaled as I often have been, with a platter of fried chicken, field peas, collard greens, fresh corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes with French dressing… and to top it all off with a wedge of freshly baked pecan pie.’ — Craig Claiborne (American food writer. 4 September 1920 – 22 January 2000)
