22 August

The 22nd of August is Bao Day.

It celebrates the Chinese stuffed buns known as bāozi, or bao for short.

Though these buns are often stars at Dim Sum, they are also sold as street food, which makes them easy to grab and eat on the run.

Bao can be steamed or baked.

The fillings can be sweet, or savoury.

They can be stuffed with meat, making it sort of like a sandwich bun.

Sweet fillings include red bean, and custard.

There are also vegetarian versions.

  • Look for deals on bao today.

History

Bao Day was started by the Wow Bao restaurant chain in the United States.

The first year for the day was 2017.

The 22 August was chosen because it was the anniversary of their launching a restaurant in Chicago.

The company engaged the webmasters at the National Day Calendar website to promote the day for them.
