Black Bog Potatoes are relatively unattractive potatoes.

They are round with dark purple skin; inside, their firm flesh is greyish with purple stripes. The water you boil them in can even turn green on you.

They were, however, considered worthwhile growing in Ireland because they are resistant to blight and rot, and will survive a lot of rain during growing season.

They are waxy potatoes.

History Notes

Developed in Ireland.
