Onion Sauce for Hot Dogs
This is a very nice relish.
- Soften the onion in a frying pan in the heated oil. Don't let the onion brown. About 5 minutes.
- Add all remaining ingredients except the vinegar.
- Bring to a boil, lower heat, simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, then add vinegar and simmer until thick -- another 30 to 35 minutes.
- Store in fridge, or freeze.
For Tabasco, add to taste: start with a few drops, adjust at end of recipe. Or use ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes This recipe has not been safety tested for shelf-stable storage. Refrigerate, or freeze.
