The 27th of November is Bavarian Cream Pie Day.
Bavarian cream (aka crème bavaroise) is a solid cream filling that is stiffened by the use of gelatin as an ingredient. It is used in many different desserts. Owing to its stiffness, it can easily be used in pies because it holds its shape well in pie slices.
Often served chilled, this type of pie makes for a refreshing dessert in summer.
Some people call it a “no bake dessert” but even though the Bavarian cream filling doesn’t require any baking, the pie shell it is poured into has to be baked first, so technically, it’s a partially-baked dessert. Though you could always cheat and buy a pre-baked pie shell!
What is your favourite flavour of Bavarian cream? Vanilla, chocolate, coconut, peppermint, banana, strawberry?
Do you like your slice of Bavarian cream pie with whipped cream, or ice cream? Or fresh fruit, or a combo?
You can get doughnuts with Bavarian cream filings in them, too.
