The 14th of September is Cream-filled Doughnut Day. It celebrates two of everyone’s food groups: cream and doughnuts.
A cream-filled doughnut is a comfort food, like your favourite fluffy pillow filled with custard. It’s one big sweetened deep-fried carb filled with sweetened creamy carbs — what’s not to love?
Today, you get to have cream-filled doughnuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What is your favourite flavour of cream-filled doughnut?
Today, you could branch out and try different ones. What about a S’mores doughnut filled with marshmallow cream and chocolate syrup, or a red velvet doughnut filled with sweetened cream cheese, or even, for grown-ups, an adult one filled with an alcohol-infused cream.
Doughnuts filled with ice cream — as in doughnut ice cream sandwiches — should count for today, because ice cream counts as a cream. Sort of.
One of the most famous of cream-filled doughnuts is the Boston Cream doughnut. One debate about the day seems to be over whether cream-filled should be spelled with a hyphen — Cream-filled Doughnut Day — or without — Cream Filled Doughnut Day.
