Roman Barley Water Recipe

This is how the Romans made their barley water.

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup Pearl Barley
  • 1 litre water (4 cups / 32 oz)
  • 125 ml White Wine (sweet. ½ cup / 4 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons Honey

Instructions
 

  • Cover & simmer the barley in 4 cups (2 pints / 1 litre) of water for 1½ hours. Strain off the juice into a jug and discard the barley.
  • Mix the juice with the wine and honey and top up with more water to make 4 cups (2 pints / 1 litre) of drink. Chill.
