The 25th of October is World Pasta Day.
On this day, you get to have pasta for both lunch and dinner! And breakfast, as well, if you can think of a way to make a pasta breakfast dish!
Pasta is oftentimes one of the first dishes that people make when they first get their own apartments. Were you the same?
Have you ever had canned pasta, such as that made by Chef Boyardee or SpaghettiOs? What did you think of it?
Lots of people buy pasta makers, or buy one as a gift for someone, that maybe get used once, then shoved to the back of a cupboard, then yard-saled, so we’re not going to suggest to rush out today and buy one. Instead, maybe support your local artisanal deli by buying some fresh pasta from them.
Pasta gets a bad rap sometimes these days because of carbs, but remember, registered dieticians don’t actually have a problem with carbs: only empty carbs. They support carbs as part of a balanced diet, and they are particularly happy if your pasta carbs these days come from whole grain pasta: in fact, on some Weight Watchers’ plans now, whole grain pasta is even a zero point food.
The average Italian eats the equivalent of at least one full dish of pasta a day — and Italians are not a population singled out for obesity problems. [1]Lucci, Fabrizio. Accessed October 2021 at https://italiasweetitalia.com/october-25-lets-celebrate-world-pasta-day/ In fact, pasta is a standard part of the now much-recommended Mediterranean diet.
So, use your noodle, cook up some pasta, and get saucy today!

Pasta Month
The American National Pasta Association recognizes that Pasta Month is October, and has conducted surveys connected with this time period, but say in correspondence that they don’t actually sponsor the month.
The earliest print reference that we have found so far that promotes October as a National Pasta Month dates from 1986:
“Newly formed, the Pasta Lover’s Club… anticipates boosting membership by several thousand in time for National Pasta Month in October.” [2]Pasta fanatics stick honorary members. New Castle News. Monday, 2 June 1986, New Castle, Pennsylvania, USA. Page 13, Col. 5
History
The U.N.A.F.P.A https://www.pasta-unafpa.org/newt/unafpa/default.aspx (“Union des associations de fabricants de pâtes alimentaires” — Union of Organizations of Manufacturers of Pasta Products”) was founded in 1960. In 1995, at their World Pasta Congress in Rome, they agreed to organize holding a World Pasta Day on the 25th of October each year.
The first year it was observed was in 1998. [3]World Pasta Day. Accessed October 2021 at https://www.pasta-unafpa.org/newt/unafpa/default.aspx?IDCONTENT=91
