European Pears

European Pears is a group name applied to pear cultivars and varieties native to Europe.

In the West, they’re what are still commonly considered to “pears” when someone says “pears”, as opposed to Asian Pear varieties.

European Pears cannot be allowed to ripen on the tree or they will go mealy. They are one of the few fruits that, in fact, ripens better off the tree.
